Reluctant Nomad

No Update, Except All the Updates

Three quiet weeks, an unwanted visit from Covid, and the discovery that Nomad has changed rather more than I realised.

The last three weeks have been strange.

It was originally going to be two weeks, but Covid decided to intervene and make itself part of the story.

I have struggled—not in a wellbeing sense, but in the much simpler sense that I haven’t felt as though I had anything to say.

Except, apparently, I do.

So here goes.

Progress, whether I noticed it or not

The van’s gearbox and clutch problems have been resolved. The dashboard is displaying no warning lights of significance. The wardrobes have been fitted, two lithium batteries are now installed, and the first blind has magnetic fittings—with a plan for the rest.

New bed linen has been purchased. The diesel air and water heater has arrived, although it needs to be installed alongside the new kitchen.

A non-spill dog bowl has also been purchased. This sounds small. It is not. It is a major upgrade.

Looking at the list, perhaps the problem was not a lack of progress. Perhaps I simply hadn’t stopped long enough to notice it.

Covid then enforced a pause that I neither planned nor appreciated.

A van that drives properly again

The biggest update is that Nomad’s gearbox and clutch problems have finally been resolved.

The van now has a new clutch, cable and flywheel—and drives better than ever.

I am enormously grateful to the team at Hi-Q Maidstone for their professionalism, hard work and, above all, patience.

If you need honest, friendly and refreshingly no-nonsense help and advice, these are your people.

This is not sponsored. It is simply gratitude where gratitude is due.

Go Hi-Q. You rock.

There is still plenty to do. The heater and kitchen need to be tackled together, the remaining blinds need their magnetic fittings, and I am sure the dashboard will eventually find something new to complain about.

But Nomad moves properly again. The batteries are installed. The wardrobes are fitted. Even the dog’s water should remain in its bowl.

Perhaps that is the update.
